I’ve been settled in my new apartment for a few weeks now, and I must say it’s going fairly well. Sure I’m not eating as properly as I had planned to, I have a lot less money than I thought I would, and the apartment itself is still resembling a big blank canvas, but It does feel like home, and I love living here.
Sorry to everyone who was asking about the hypothetical house warming. It never happened, and I doubt it is going to. If you want to come see the place feel free, just hit me up with a sms and we’ll arrange a time, preferably with beer and video games.
Work has become a bit of a disaster, more so for my workmates than me. After getting to know and genuinely like my team the company decided to fire everyone but me and one other girl.
Sure, we were all on contracts working as temp employees, but we were lead to believe that the company would need us indefinitely and that we would all be made permanant eventualy, It was just a matter of time.
So thinking that our time had come, we all applied for permanant positions that had come up within the company, believing that if we werent successfuly we would just ahve to wait for the next round of openings.
A few days later we we’re all contacted and told that our contracts were ending Feb 8th, creating a situation where essentialy we were applying to keep our own jobs.
Somehow I made it through, something that had nothing to do with my productivity or accuracy on the job, but rather a hidden x factor that I am still unable to determine.
So last Friday was the last day for my former team mates.
We got half the day off which we spent drinking at roof top bar, which then lead to further drinking back at my place in an attempt to eat into my inherited alcohol cupboard and save money (300 a week rent is a bitch).
It was a pretty relaxed evening up until a point. People were drinking a lot and one girl in particular got a bit out of hand. It was all love and sponge slapping in the end though, and I think everyone had a good if not interesting time.
The next day I agreed to try and sneak into Good Vibrations with Chris. I wanted to buy a ticket, but Chris being the frugal man he is decided that it would be both a bargain and a thrill to keep it old school and jump some fences in an attempt to get in.
I must be losing my touch because while my partner in crime made it in with little trouble, I got over the fence only to be dragged away by security.
Anyway, I took the opportunity to go home and sleep away my hangover from the previous night. I’m sure Kanye and The Rapture were great, but even the opportunity to see them seemed unimportant under the heavy weight of my well earned hangover.
I’m trying to rewind my mind here as it’s been a while since I last updated. I have no internet at the moment so I’m unable to post without either typing at work or bringing it in the next day.
Big Day Out. I wasn’t that enthused about it when I bought the ticket but it turned out to be pretty great. I ended up seeing British India, Cut Off Your Hands (which I hadn’t heard before but am eagerly awaiting their first release), Josh Pyke (which I left hastily to go see…) Kate Nash (Who I also hadn’t heard before but am impressed and slightly smitten with),

Dizzee Rascal (Much better live, which gave me an entirely new appreciation for his albums and left me walking away covered in sweat), Spoon (Much worse live, definitely a “listen while you do something” artist, I left early to go check out), Hilltop Hoods (who were about the size of an apple from where I was standing, hugely popular and I’m still not sure why),

Arcade Fire (Easily my favourite act of the day, absolutely awesome live and again, it’s given me a whole new appreciation of their albums), Battles (very, very underwhelming, I left almost immediately to go check out…) UNKLE (who I could barely see, I may have been at the wrong place…) Silverchair (who I was only listening to because I was waiting for a half decent spot (emphasis on the half) (oooh brackets inside brackets, is that allowed?) to see…),

Bjork (Who provided the most memorable moment of the night as she released her beautifully unique voice over a crowd of appreciative fans as the sun set over Big Day Out 2008)
What no Rage? Not a fan sorry. Flame on.
