Meeting The Pwnerer

Saturday, November 3rd, 2007

Xander and I went to the premiere of Pure Pwnage episode 15 today at the Astore Theatre. The place was absolutely packed, mostly with underage teenage geeks (who seemed to have no trouble buying beer at the candy bar).

Both Jarett Cale and Geoff Lapaire (Jeremy and Kyle) were in attendance, introducing the episode and expressing their gratitude towards the fans for coming and supporting the show.

They screened both episode 13 and 14 before finally revealing 15, which turned out to be a great episode and a vast improvement over episode 14, which I thought was lacking in plot development (something that this episode really focused on.)

To totally spoil it for those who didn’t attend, care, and happen to read my blog (which is nobody), the episode mainly focused on the release of Halo 3 and the hype surrounding it, with Jeremy buying the legendary edition, hanging out with pro Halo player “T-Bag” and then ultimately forgetting about Halo altogether in favor of Team Fortress 2.

The whole thing had a strong “fuck Halo and its fans” message to it which I saw coming and appreciated.

The highlight though was Doug, who finally makes his return after his fall to the dark side last season. He and Jeremy share an intense (and genuinely surprising) confrontation and it is revealed that Doug is working for the Mulder and Scully-esque government agents who I assumed up until this point were somehow neutral.

After the episode finished everyone moved out into the lobby where Jarett and Geoff signed autographs and posed for pictures with fans. The crowd was huge, but we managed to get our photos taken fairly quickly regardless. You can check out the pictures in the photo album.

It was surreal meeting “the pwnerer” in the flesh. I have watched the episodes so many times that it felt like I already knew him, which was awesome for me (and im sure many other fans) but no doubt creepy for him. He was very appreciative and welcoming towards what was essentially a large mass of sweaty geeks closing on him like a pack of zombies. He even signed some tittays.
