It’s been roughly ten months since I stopped writing. It seems like a lot less time has passed, but when I think about the things that have happened since I last updated, I guess it kind of fits. To sum things up as quickly as possible: (and in a continuous string of unparagraphed, chronologically ordered events)
Turn 23. Worst Birthday Yet. Receive the wrong headphones. Charlie doesn’t call. Become depressed and consider moving to Africa. Correct headphones arrive. Depression fading. Christmas Day. Receive Nintendo Wii AND new camera. Depression fading rapidly. NYE. See the Grates, Dukes of Windsor and other bands at the Espy. Hang out with random MLC girl and her cute friend. Receive call from a girl who loved/hated me in year 7. Go to her house party on the way home. Run into Phil and others I know there. Go home with Phil (but not in that way). Go to the Aquarium with Pia. Start dating Pia. Introduced to Japanese trading figures. Develop Kubrick addiction. Grow closer to Pia. Fail at relationship with Pia. Break up with Pia. Spend breakup away on Kubrick figures and video games. Parents sell business. Lift wheels and tyres all day for paychecks labeled “slave” (no joke). Get used to having money. Business closes. Parents home all day. Money runs out. New variety of hell discovered. Rapid search for employment ensues…
… and that brings us up to speed, and to Pixel Robot. If you check out pixelrobot.com you will see a portfolio of all of the work I have done (that I haven’t lost) over the years from my days at RMIT and elsewhere. Hopefully this will be enough to impress someone out there so that I can get out of the house during the day, and eventually leave forever.
As for the site you are reading, I am finally running on a paid server and running wordpress, so everything is automated. This allows me to throw away the old mentality of “each post has to count” and conform to the internet standard of posting whenever the fuck I feel like it. Because it’s just that easy. I even have the option to have comments now, so you can leave feedback and discuss whatever unimportant topic I’m ranting about amongst yourselves. However, I’m not sure If i want to grant you that power yet. I don’t think some of you would handle it well, so I’m leaving comments moderated for now, which means I have to approve whatever you write before it appears.
Anyway, E3 just happened, and I haven’t matured past the awesomeness that is gaming in the past ten months, so how about I show you a few pieces of hardware that I found interesting from the big N.
You are looking at the piece of hardware that will lead Nintendo to (further) world domination. Wii Fit, as the name suggests, is a Fitness “game” for the Nintendo Wii. After calculating your BMI, you perform various exercises on the platform pictured below, ranging from Yoga to Push-ups, while the game keeps track of your progress, pushing you to reach your desired level of fitness. It apparently even makes adjustments to your Mii character, so if you’re overweight, your Mii will have an overweight body to match.

Also revealed for the Wii, the final design for the Wii Zapper.

It reminds me of the sub-machine gun from Halo 2 and of the old Menacer light gun for the Sega Mega Drive. It seems to be receiving quite a negative reaction, with some people preferring the prototype revealed last year, but personally I think it looks quite nice.
Other things E3 that got me excited: Resident Evil 5, Little Big Planet, Killzone 2 and Super Mario Galaxy all look excellent.
I’m not only limited to games ladies and gentlemen, I also happen to have impeccable taste in music, film and other media based awesomeness. Expect my music and other media recommendations to become a regular sighting here at Pixel Robot.

Music Recommendations: The Horrors – Strange House, Interpol – Our Love to Admire and Justice – Cross. Also while you’re at it check out the music video for Justice – D.A.N.C.E. and The Horrors – Sheena is a Parasite, directed by Chris Cunningham.
In fact, if you want to do yourself a favor, just do a youtube search for “Chris Cunningham” and watch all of his music videos. He’s done videos for Aphex Twin, Portishead and Bjork to name a few, and they are all amazing.
